I
already have weights or tent stakes that work. What’s the difference?
While no tent weight
will work under every weather condition imaginable, some work better than
others and others don’t work at all when the day comes that you really
need them. With that in mind,
let’s begin with the most common tent weight materials and anchoring
methods: tent stakes, rope, sandbags, concrete
and steel.
The obvious disadvantage with the last three is the extra weight to haul
each time you’re on the road.
This can add up to $16.00 to $22.00 extra per event.** And sandbags also get wet and dirty.
Most
methods affix the weight to the tent pole at the ground
or leave tent stakes sticking out. These
are often in the path of the public or children who can
trip over them or the rope and possibly get injured.
Locating all the weight at the ground level also
does not address the inherit weakness of a telescoping
tent pole or the wind’s ability to cause differential
displacement above this point.
It’s like trying to bunt a baseball holding on
to the end of the bat with just two fingers.
You need to position your hands along the length
of the bat, or in this case the tent pole, to maintain
control and gain a mechanical advantage.
Sand
bags, plastic sewer pipe filled with concrete, concrete blocks and
plates of steel are also noticeably ugly and do not
contribute to an atmosphere designed to enhance the
value of your hard work or a
presentation created for a memorable client experience.
And
the methods use to secure the weights typically do not
provide a positive lock type connection to the pole and
in some cases allowing the weight to swing about freely
with no gain in tent pole mass.
Simply
put, the EZ-Weights System helps you with these problems
and more: EZ-Weights
positions the weight out of the path of your customers or children for a safer event experience.
The
pole clamping system employed integrates with the weight
container to form a brace when using a telescoping pole
and distributes the weight of the ballasting material up
the length of the pole to help reduce the wind’s
ability to cause differential displacement.
EZ-Weights
can be positioned inside the tent to allow for the
closing of the side wall covers.
EZ-Weights
compact and attractive design allows you to use them for
floral arrangements or other presentation and promotional
material such as name cards, attaching to the tent pole by means
of a clamping system to form a positive lock type
connection
increasing tent pole mass.
And the EZ-Weights
System's tough, Patent
Pending, disposable water design
provides a fast and safer professional shade canopy installation you’re
sure to be pleased with inside the tent and at the gas pump.
How does it work?
The
unique way in which EZ-Weights™ clamp, instead of tying with rope or
bungies, to a tent's telescoping poles effectively braces the two segments
together while dynamically distributing the weight up and along a
column.
This ridged
column provides extra stability where you need
it, at the tent pole's
telescoping weak point and toward the
weightless canopy increasing the effectiveness of the
ballasting load.
Our Patent Pending
design applies mass directly to the canopy poles
with a secure positive connection, reducing the wind’s
ability to cause sever differential displacement or
racking because of the mechanical advantage the wind
normally would have if all the weight was only set at
the base of the tent pole.
How
much can I really save on gas?
Let's
say you’re getting 20
MPG highway and drive 500 miles to a show with an
additional 200 LBS in tent weights; it is estimated that
it will reduce your gas mileage between 1.5 – 2 MPG. (Data source
based on: PublicArticles.info / Ten things that will
increase the fuel economy of your vehicle) With
gas prices currently about $4.00 per gallon this works out to be between
$16.00 to $22.00 extra round trip.
By
the mile it adds up this way: between $0.016 - $0.022
extra per mile. Times
that by the number of miles you travel to events in a year and…
Well, you do the math.
Keep
in mind this is only an estimate as there are many factors
effecting the outcome.
The numbers could go up or down depending on your
situation. The one thing, however, all the experts agree on
is lowering vehicle weight improves fuel economy, which
saves you money and cuts back on greenhouse gas emissions.
And even if you fill
the tanks with water before an event and empty them for
the trip home, as some folks do, you still stand to cut the
extra cost due to tent weights in half.

How
much CO2
can I save to help with global climate change?
Increasing
concentrations of greenhouse gases (GHGs) are trapping more of the sun's
energy in the Earth's atmosphere, causing global climate change.
Carbon dioxide (CO2) from burning fossil fuels
is the most important human-made GHG. Pollution
control devices cannot reduce your car's CO2
emissions but improving its gas mileage can. Each
gallon of gasoline we burn creates 20 pounds of CO2
with highway vehicles accounting
for 26% of our CO2
emissions or 1.7 billion tons each year. (Data
source: Physical and chemical properties of gasoline: Department of Energy
(DOE), Alternative Fuels Data Center.)
Below is a chart to help understand how improving your vehicle's gas
mileage will reduce its yearly CO2
emissions.

How do I know if
EZ-Weights will work with my canopy?
Thanks
to a unique and easy to operate clamping system, EZ-Weights™
can be attached to a variety of the most popular 10' x 10' shade canopies
having angular or round poles between
7/8" to 1 3/4" in diameter if using a round tent pole, like the LightDome© shelter. Or
7/8" to 1 1/2" square if using a square
tent pole, like the E-ZUP©
Instant Shelters©
. In
any case, we will be happy to check it for you.
Send us an
e-mail with your tent make and model number and the pole
diameter, if it’s round, or the length & width if it’s
square and Web address if you've seen it online. Be
sure to include your e-mail address for a reply. Privacy
Statement
How
do they attach to the pole?
They attach to the pole using a series of adjustable
clamp blocks that tighten to a square of round pole with
a flat tip screw driver.
What are
EZ-Weights made of?
Each weight
container is made from top quality 100% virgin materials. The outer layer
contains a more concentrated amount of UV protection – 10-12 parts per
100 of TI02/Titanium Dioxide from DuPont (tiPURE) – The best U.V.
protection available (TIO²) and other chemical additives which prevent
ultraviolet degradation. The inner layer utilizes TRUFORCE - impact
modifiers which are the toughest acrylic modifiers in the industry.
Everyone
has heard about the recent recalls involving products
made in China that contain lead. Plastic jewelry, toy
train sets coated with lead paint and most recently, the
recall of Mattel toys.
In countries outside the United States, it is not out of
the ordinary for lead to be used as a stabilizer in
Vinyl compounds because it is less expensive then the
high-quality, safe alternatives that are use in our
weight containers. We feel that consumers should
not have to worry about harmful lead hidden in PVC and
are proud to be able to state that we never have and
never will use lead as a stabilizer in our weight
containers.
How tall are they?
Each weight container is approximately
5”x 5” x 48" tall.
How much do they weigh when empty?
Each weight container weighs
only 5 lbs. when empty.
How much do they weigh when fully charged?
The average combined applied weight of the
EZ-Weights System when charged with water is about
200 lbs., and depending on the type of sand
used 260 pounds or more.
How
much water do they hold?
They hold about
5.20 gallons each.
I
really don't want to fill them at a show is there any
other way?
Yes, you can fill them at home and empty them at the end
of the event, as some folks do,
and cut your extra fuel cost due to tent
weights in half. It's
still better than carrying the weight there and
back as is the case with sandbags and many other methods.
Or, you can fill them at a RV or gas station or rest stop a few miles before the event which is the way we
prefer if water is not available.
Do
they leak?
EZ-Weights are made of waterproof vinyl and do not leak. We guarantee
it.
When
do you fill them?
EZ-Weights can be filled with water or sand before or after
attaching to the pole. Because EZ-Weights are fitted with a threaded plug, located
at the top, some folks fill them before an event and lay
them down in their van. At the end of the
event they empty them to save on gas. You could also check with
your client or event manger to see if water is available for
filling. Or, you can fill them at a RV or gas station or rest stop a few miles before the event which is the way we
prefer if water is not available.
Can
I use the weight containers to store drinking water?
No, you should never use the weight containers to
store drinking water as they were not designed for such use.
How
do you fill them?
The best way to fill your EZ-Weights is with a short length
of
common garden hose, 8' or 10', after removing the
threaded
plug located at the top. You
can use a bucket and funnel or a watering can if need be but it takes longer.
How
much weight do I need for my tent?
Obviously the more weight the better.
But the minimum recommended amount based on a survey sent to the six major
U.S.
manufacturers of 10' X 10' portable shade canopy tents is between 30 to 40
pounds per pole. The EZ-Weights
System when using water provides about 50 pounds per pole. And when
using sand as much as 65 pounds per pole.
How
do you empty them?
EZ-Weights are emptied by detaching them from the pole
and lowering to the ground. Remove the threaded plug located at
the top and drain the water into the street or on the
grass. Some of our customers have said they like to water a near by tree of
bush.
How
do you clean them?
Depending
on what it is you’re trying to remove, EZ-Weights can be cleaned in a
couple of ways:
1.
Soap and water, or any household cleaner suitable for use on plastic, using
a sponge, cloth or a Scotch-Bright® No Scratch scouring pad.
2.
Liquid hand cleaner with pumice
in a squeeze bottle
works particularly
well to remove scuffs and
marring. Apply a small amount
on a sponge or cloth and work it in along the length of the tank.
Then wipe with a clean cloth.
3.
For stubborn scuffs try using a pencil eraser, then wipe with a
Scotch-Bright®
No Scratch or similar scouring pad. You
can finish it off with a quick wipe of liquid hand cleaner with pumice. Remember
to work in the direction along the length of the tank; and it’s always a
good idea to test a cleaning product or method on a small area at the
bottom of the tank before you
begin.
Do
you have any systems under $219?
There is only one EZ-Weights
System which is regularly priced at $355. Having it available online for
$219 saves you over a 135 dollars.
When compared
to other highly specialized items, or tanks that are manufactured for
agriculture and laboratories, it
represents a great buy. The quality of the materials used in
construction for those
unexpected days when you need to be prepared for the wind and
the savings in gas you can achieve over time, when
using disposable water, only sweetens
the deal.
