As an outdoor exhibitor of exotic wood furniture I know first hand how frustrating it can be trying to secure a shade canopy in the 
event of inclement weather and still maintain an attractive and safe presentation.  Being prepared for the wind is always a challenge

Not long ago an artist friend of mine had his shade canopy ripped from the ground by sudden high winds.  He watched in horror as

With that in mind, rope and tent stakes are too easy for the public to trip on as well as sandbags and the like which 
also are difficult to move around and noticeably ugly.  It seemed silly to put all that effort into setting up and getting
things to look their best for the event only to surround it with a potentially dangerous obstacle course.
